Coopepiña

Laboratory of beneficial organisms

Costa Rica

COOPEPIÑA, a group of small pineapple farmers, will build a laboratory for activating bioinputs, which are made from beneficial organisms such as bacteria and fungi that are used to control pests and diseases. Nicoverde will provide the bioinputs in concentrated or solid form, and COOPEPIÑA will activate them in the laboratory and distribute them to farmers.

Bioinputs are key to sustainable agriculture because:

  • They reduce or replace the use of agrochemicals.
  • They do not leave toxic residues in the environment.
  • Their use does not imply risks for the health of farmers or consumers.
