Varcli Pinares S.A.

Renovation of “La Alcantarilla” quay for biodiversity conservation

The banana company Varcli Pinares S.A. is another winner of the From Field to Plate Programme Ideas Competition in Costa Rica.

Varcli, a company committed to the conservation of biodiversity, has its banana plantation next to the Pacuare Reserve, which is considered the second largest nesting site in the world for the Leatherback Turtle, and the only nesting site for the Agami Heron.

This is why the project seeks to renovate the only access point to the reserve, the “La Alcantarilla” dock, located on the company’s property. This point will be used for:

  • Create spaces for environmental education that promote sustainable banana production.
  • Protect the Leatherback Turtle and Agami Heron among the banana company’s employees, tourists, students and researchers who enter the reserve.
